The function of the oil filter
In order to reduce the friction resistance between the relative moving parts in the engine and reduce the wear of the parts, the engine oil is continuously delivered to the friction surfaces of the moving parts to form a lubricating oil film for lubrication. Engine oil itseLF contains a certain amount of colloid, impurities, water and additives. At the same time, during the working process of the engine, the metal wear debris, the entry of impurities in the air, and the generation of oil oxides make the impurities in the engine oil gradually increase. If the engine oil directly enters the lubricating oil circuit without being filtered, the sundries contained in the engine oil will be brought to the friction surface of the moving pair, which will accelerate the wear of the parts and reduce the service life of the engine. The function of the oil filter is to filter out sundries, colloids and moisture in the oil, and to deliver clean oil to each lubricating part.

Classification of oil filters
According to the structure, the oil filter can be divided into replaceable type, spin-on type and centrifugal type; according to the arrangement in the system, it can be divided into full-flow type and split-flow type.
Full Flow Oil Filter: An oil filter that passes all the oil required for the lubrication system.

Main performance indicators of oil filter
1) Filtration Efficiency
 The percentage of the number of particles filtered out by a filter element to the total number of particles of this size is called the filtration eFFiciency of particles of this size;
2) Bubble point pressure
 Immerse the filter element in the test liquid according to the specified depth and internal pressure, and measure the pressure value when the filter element assembly begins to emit the first string of bubbles.
   Bubble point pressure is to check the integrity of the filter element manufacturing, mainly to check whether the filter material meets the parameter requirements specified in the design, and the quality of the connection between parts (including joints, glue joints, welding, etc.);
3) Original resistance and final resistance
The original resistance refers to the filter of the new filter element, and the pressure diFFerence between the inlet and outlet of the filter at the rated flow;
 In order to ensure that enough engine oil enters the internal combustion engine, it is customary to make the pressure drop of the designed filter not exceed the specified value when passing the rated flow.

How an oil filter works
