Shallow sand filters are composed of one or more standard high-speed sand tank units, featuring unique distributors and collectors, and equipped with a distinctive automatic backwash valve. This enables sequential individual backwashing of multiple standard high-speed sand tanks during normal system operation, all controlled by a fully automatic program. The system offers advantages such as low backwash water consumption, easy installation, and user-friendly operation; This equipment has a high flow rate and requires no maintenance. Depending on different user requirements, it is available in two series: vertical and horizontal, suitable for water quality treatment needs in multiple fields.
Working Principle
Filtration State
The shallow sand filter consists of multiple filtration units arranged in parallel. When the system is in filtration mode, untreated water is evenly distributed through a uniquely designed distributor. The water flows through the filter media layer (high-quality uniform-grain quartz sand) in a laminar flow state. As the water passes through the filter media layer, impurities are trapped within the layer. The bottom of the filter is equipped with multiple uniformly distributed collectors that uniformly collect and discharge the filtered water. The parallel flow filtration allows the filter to achieve good filtration results even at high flow rates.
Backwash Mode
As impurities accumulate in the filter media layer, the internal pressure head loss increases continuously. When the pressure head loss between the inlet and outlet reaches the set value, the system automatically activates the constant pressure differential device to switch to backwashing mode. After this unit completes backwashing, the hydraulic valve changes the water supply direction to achieve sequential backwashing of each unit, facilitating the removal of accumulated impurities.
During backwashing, filtration continues. The standard unit sand tank undergoing backwashing does not filter water, while other standard unit sand tanks in the system continue filtration. Part of the filtered clean water is used for backwashing the standard unit sand tanks, while the remainder is sent to the user. The backwash wastewater is discharged through the backwash drain port of the hydraulic valve. In the high-speed sand tank high-efficiency filtration system, the special collector design enables the fill material to rub against each other, maximising backwash efficiency, reducing the amount of backwash water (clean water) required, and preventing material loss during backwashing. A standard unit sand filter tank undergoes backwashing for 3 minutes. Upon completion of backwashing, the internal pressure drop within the standard unit sand filter tank is reduced to a reasonable range. The pressure-maintaining device issues a restoration signal, the hydraulic valve returns to the filtration state, and the next standard unit sand filter tank prepares to enter the backwashing state. The system can also control backwashing via time settings, with a default backwashing interval of 4 hours. The time can be adjusted based on site conditions, and the dual-system control does not distinguish between primary and secondary systems, with the first to reach the condition being executed first.
